German Death Doom Metal act CALLIOPHIS, now as a five-piece, releases its second full length album COR SERPENTIS.
COR SERPENTIS is a genuine funeral/death doom metal album that is paved with utterly slow riffage, calm acoustic passages, nightmarish samples and hellish gurgling.
The dark, funeralistic atmosphere is intensified by immanent use of melodic guitar lines and pointed haunting solos lifting CALLIOPHIS on the next level of their doom evolution.
Tight tracks, in every sense of the word: the compositions and arrangements are solid and compelling, the musicianship is excellent, and the production top-notch.
The album is a consistent piece of tons heavy slowness serving desperate emotions and hopelessness, an isolating feeling in a dark abyss never ending.
CALLOPHIS is another proof that saying “German quality” isn’t only about products of local industry in several branches.

This was truly a revelation. I was getting started with funeral doom, working on something with my headphones on... Then came Déluge... my jaw actually dropped, I stopped what I was doing and, wide-eyed, just listened to the track, baffled and amazed. After the album was over (I never do this), I went to lay down with my headphones to enjoy it over again. I rarely heard (and felt) this much power and emotion in an album. Until I find something better, this is my landmark for peak funeral doom.

one of the best death doom bands so far. great melodies with great atmospheres. mostly slow, heavy and doomy but sometimes there are these groovy double-bass drum moments wich are pretty fucking cool. if you like death doom and melodic atmospheric black metal, this is for you.
